AZEB GRAY returns to the Center for her 15th year to work with our morning and afternoon children. She became interested in Montessori educational philosophy when her daughter was a student here. Azeb completed her preprimary certification through the American Montessori Society. Her beautiful smile and gentle ways make her equally popular with children, parents and staff. Fluent in French, Azeb, who also has her Child Development Associate credential and her Early Childhood Credential, just received her Associate’s Degree in education from Rockland Community College. She is moving on to the State University College in Purchase this September to further her studie

Shanaz Shaheen received her teaching certification for primary aged children (2 ½ - 7 years) from the Association Montessori International in Sri Lanka, where she subsequently worked at the Crescent and the Melbourne International schools. After immigrating to the USA, Shanaz became interested in our youngest students and attended the Center for Montessori Teacher Education at New Rochelle, where she obtained comprehensive specialized training for dealing with toddlers. With more than 10 years at the Montessori Center of Nyack, she is very excited about returning to work with our morning and afternoon students, many of whom she knew as toddlers.

MARÍA ELENA TORRES is a graduate of Lehman College with a major in psychology and a minor in education. She loves working with our children and never has a cross word for either staff or students. Elena completed her Montessori early childhood certification at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education at the College of New Rochelle. Bilingual, she provides Spanish language lessons for our full-day children and leads them in our weekly Spanish immersion day. Elena is also a skilled seamstress and famous for her sewing projects.

PATTY RICHARDS joins us mid-day as a directress in the afternoon session Montessori classroom and as lead teacher for our Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. Patty has an extensive background in all aspects of visual and performing arts, including design, illustration, dance, voice, and acting. Her experience as a musical comedy performer and as the mother of three grown children helps her survive in nearly all situations! Patty is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts and Marymount College, where she majored in studio art. She has worked extensively with preschoolers years and is certified by the Center for Montessori Teacher Education.

BEATRIX STEFAN has been working at the Montessori Center for over three years. In addition to being the mother of an active two-year-old, Beatrix is currently studying for her Child Development Associates credential at Rockland Community College. A former preschool teacher in her native Hungary, she is very artistic and loves designing projects for her students. Beatrix is noted for her gentle way with children, so this makes her an ideal teaching assistant.  Beatrix will be working with the AM class and the moving to the full-day program in the afternoon.
